Education is the key to success but these celebrities have managed to become great regardless. There’s no doubt that these Mzansi celebs are role models to many youngsters out there. But we are not trying to encourage anyone to quit school, but we are basically showing you that an education isn’t an absolute necessity to have a successful life. High praise, indeed — whether you’re a PhD or a dropout, you too can put South Africa on the map.
Just like the following successful celebrities below…
Famous SA Celebrities Who Are High School Or College Dropouts
1. Minnie Dlamini
Minnie was studying film, media, drama and economics at UCT but she de-registered so that she could move to Joburg and pursue her TV career. She says she is thinking of doing Bcomm Marketing, just to do the business side of things.
2. Bonang Matheba
Move is reporting that the star was excluded from her marketing course after failing the same modules several times. A source told the mag that Bonang, a former University of Johannesburg student, became very popular on campus because of her TV gig. “People would stare at her wherever she went on campus and maybe that’s why she she didn’t attend classes regularly.” The source told Move that Bonang did not drop out of university, but was excluded.
3. Cassper Nyovest
Nyovest dropped out of high school in 2006, left home and moved to Johannesburg. The following year, still at the age of 16, he was signed by the Motswako label “Impact Sounds”. After two years without a release, he left to start a label of his own to no avail — he moved back home. Speaking to Move about being a dropout, he said: “Going to school wasn’t my path to follow. I don’t have time.” He added that he really doesn’t need school for what he is doing right now. “I will go back to school maybe someday when I’m bored. I won’t go back right now.”
4. Charlize Theron
Actress Charlize Theron was born and raised near Johannesburg, where she attended high school at the The National School of the Arts. Attended school, that is, until she dropped out.
5. Andile Jobe
When Andile’s father passed away and when his mother couldn’t afford to pay his school fees, he was kicked out of school and after failing to persuade the principal to let him come back.
