Yesterday was the exclusive local unveiling of the BMW 750Li Individual Art Car. The car boast Ndebele internal wooden trims, painted by SA artist Esther Mahlangu. In 2016, Esther was commissioned by the BMW Group to redefine a BMW 7 Series. The vehicle was on display at the Frieze Art Fair which took place in London.
The car has now returned to South Africa and will help raise awareness of the rich history of Ndebele art. The vehicle will form part of BMW Group South Africa’s Heritage Collection and will be utilized as a display vehicle at various Arts & Cultural events with the blessing of Esther in order to preserve her cultural heritage.
The talented woman is glad that BMW brought her art back to South Africa, sharing her passion with the people of South Africa for many years to come. Esther is the first woman to create artwork on a BMW 525i sedan, turning it into a unique and colorful BMW Art Car.
