Sad Note: Sibongile Khumalo Passes Away. Not a week passes by without the sad news of mourning a well known personality. The nation is still trying to come to terms with the untimely passing of Minister Jackson Mthembu who passed away from Covid-19 complications a week ago.

South African has suffered yet another major loss. On a very sad note, the nation is mourning Sibongile Khumalo. The multi-award winning jazz veteran, passed away on Thursday at the age of 63. The details surrounding her death have not yet been released.

Sibongile will go down history as one of the great musicians to come out of this country. Many will remember her iconic performed at the late president Nelson Mandela’s 75th birthday. On another special occasion, Sibongile led the New Zealand and SA national anthems at the historic 1995 World Cup rugby final.

One of her biggest achievement was being awarded, Order of Ikhamanga in Silver by the presidency for her excellent contribution to the development of SA art and culture in the musical fields of jazz and opera.

She studied Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Zululand and an Honours Degree in the History of Music from the University of the Wits. Sibongile was also conferred with 2 honorary doctorates by the University of Zululand and the University of South Africa. Condolences to her family, loved ones and fans across the world.
