Sicelo Buthelezi On How He Bagged The Teddy Role On Gomora. He is one of the most talented upcoming stars currently making waves on TV. Many got to know Sicelo Buthelezi, the day he made his debut as one of the cast members of Mzasi Magic hit telenovela, Gomora. He plays Teddy, the son of an alcoholic mother Zodwa played by the talented Sana Mchunu. Zodwa’s alcohol troubles affects Teddy who struggles at school. This has resulted on Teddy being fostered by the school principal Melusi (Zolisa Xaluva) and his wife Grace,(Thembi Seete). Despite this Teddy is a happy child who makes everyone around him happy.
On Tuesday, Sicelo was a guest on The Morning Show SA, where he spoke about his career, personal life and future plans. The main focus was on the character that he plays, Teddy, which has won hearts across South Africa. The award winning actor and musician revealed that he went to the auditions just like everybody else. His mentor, Warren Masemola, is the one who tipped Sicelo about the open auditions, and he went to try his luck. Since he is talented and boasts an acting background, Sicelo landed the role.
Sicelo credits his cousin who stays in Alexandra Township, for helping him perfect his Kasi lingo for the role of Teddy. As a person who grew up in Thembisa, Sicelo, also said his background helped him to relate with his TV character. Despite having won the Outstanding Newcomer award at the 2020 Royalty Soapie Award, Sicelo remains grounded and humble. He aims at working even harder to perfect his craft.
Beside his astonishing work on Gomora, Sicelo is also big on Theatre, where he actually started. Before lockdow he would go to the theatre as much as possible, and credits it for all his talents and abilities. Sicelo is also a rapper of note, who occasionally does gigs as a side hustle. If everything goes according to plan, he will be dropping his music project around June/July.
