Sappi – Tugela Mill is seeking a suitably qualified person to operate the Conveyor and Repulpers and work with the Dryerman for the continuous and efficient operation of the Dryer Section; be responsible and accountable for continuous removal of finished goods reels after the Strapline operation.
Requirements
- Full N3 Pulp and Paper (4 subjects) and/or relevant NQF Level 4 Qualification
- Minimum 3 Months Experience within a Manufacturing Environment
- Computer Literacy Advantageous
Responsibilities
Assistant :Dryend
- Prepares the section for start-up or shut down according to best operating practice (BOP).
- Assists the Dryerman start-up starting the Dryer Sections according to BOP.
- Operates Pope Equipment to turn up and remove jumbos when required.
- Feeds tail during start-up together with Dryerman and other crew members.
- Operates the Semi-Goliath crane to remove finished jumbo reels from the Pope Section to the Kitchen Rail.
- Operates Guillotine and PM3 repulper.
- Cuts up broke and side runs and feeds to the dry end repulper or PM3 repulper as per BOP.
- Controls repulper level and consistency and transfers broke to break chest.
- Visually checks jumbo reels for defects and reports to the Dryerman.
- Takes jumbo quality samples when required.
- Assists with clothing changes and rope changes.
- Checks and removes broke from the machine including basement & ropes to minimise risks as per BOP.
- Plans activities so that section runs continuously.
- Carries out unplanned/planned tasks on instruction from the Foreman.
- Comply with all relevant SHEQ requirements of the job.
- Identify and take corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions and hazards.
- Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times.

Attendant : Strapline
- Assist Strapline Controller in the general running and operation of the Strapline by operating conveyors, strapping and stencil machine.
- Conduct inspection of section to ensure that the equipment is in a safe working condition.
- Inspect all reels to ensure that it is in a good condition and that the reel is bar-coded.
- Report all non-conformances to immediate supervisor.
- Ensure accurate labeling of the reels.
- Carries out any reasonable instruction given by the Shift Foreman.
- Assist production team with planned and unplanned task/shuts.
- Comply with all relevant SHEQ requirements of the job.
- Identify and take corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions and hazards.
- Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times.
