Bonnie Mbuli Addresses Stereotypes Faced By Women Who Don’t Wear Weaves

Bonnie Mbuli Addresses Stereotypes Faced By Women Who Don’t Wear Weaves. It is sad that in this day and age women are still being judged on how they wear their hair. Even though many influential women have gone natural, long straight hair has always been regarded as more professional. It is quite a battle out there, but at least it is an issue that is constantly being addressed.

Bonnie Mbuli touched on some of the issues that hinder naturals to progress. “Ya’ll expect that people who wear their hair like mine should be more willing to do work for free, I see you! Check your brain washed tendencies. Not today, not ever, I’m not the one,” she said.

The TV host and actress said a woman with a weave are aken more serious whereas naturals are expected to work for free. “Basically, if I wore a long sleek weave, people would be less likely to expect me to do work for free. It says more about the media manufactured culture of what brands believe is an aspirational aesthetic than it does about the value one brings to the table,” she said.
