“I Am Humbled,” David Tlale on Receiving His Honorary Doctorate. This past Monday, October 24th, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) conferred honorary doctorate degrees on four foremost South Africans as part of its Spring graduation ceremonies.

The four are international award winning artist Dr Esther Mahlangu, multi-award winning musician and actress Yvonne Chaka Chaka, renowned fashion designer, David Tlale as well as businessman Michael Nkuna. These personalities were honored for their achievements serving as an example of the University’s aspirations. As much as they are leaders in their fields, they continue to prove that the sky is the limit.

Tlale, who has been making waves both locally and internationally was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Arts and Design (Honoris Causa) in the Faculty of Arts and Design during the TUT’s Spring graduation ceremonies recently. The University conferred the degree on him for putting South Africa at the forefront of fashion and for serving as an inspiration to young creatives studying in this cut-throat industry.

A visibly touched Tlale dedicated the degree to his late mother Joyce, who he said always made sure that he, his sisters, and brother looked presentable despite the little she had. He urged the audience to never underestimate humble beginnings as they can lead to greatness. He has been congratulated by the likes of Basetsana Kumalo, Nomzamo Mbatha and Norma Mngoma,

Never underestimate small beginnings. Humble beginnings have a tendency of leading to greatness,” he said in his acceptance speech.

“I am humbled to be Conferred by @tut_official2 with the Honorary Doctorate in Arts and Design. Much appreciation and love. I dedicate This Doctorate Degree to my Mom Joyce’ my family, friends the media and my beautiful country South Africa.. to my team thank you… God Your Grace is Sufficient for me,” Tlale added in gratitude.
