Applications Open for the SANRAL Bursary Programme. SANRAL aims to support deserving qualifying students in the fields of transportation infrastructure, engineering and its related professions in the built environment, smart technologies, public sector infrastructure development and administration and other professions related to the core business of SANRAL. Students at Universities, Universities of Technology and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions can now apply for a SANRAL bursary.

All applications will be subjected to a Means Test which is a formula that is applied to determine the amount of financial assistance provided by SANRAL. Depending on the outcome of the Means Test, a family contribution may have to be made.

Qualifications

  • Students at university need a 60% overall average.
  • Matriculants need a 70% overall average.
  • Bursaries are for undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
  • Awards will be made in line with SANRAL’s Employment Equity (EE) Transformation Policy objectives.
  • The applicant’s financial situation will be taken into consideration.
  • Applicants with other bursaries will be disqualified.
  • Students with disabilities are invited to apply.
  • Bursary recipients will have the opportunity to apply for on-the-job training.

Minimum Requirements

  • South African citizen
  • Accepted for studies that you applied for in the bursary application
  • Proposed study aligned with the qualifications outlined in the application
  • Meet academic requirements
  • Not older than 35 years
  • Enrolment for full-time study

What the Bursary Covers

Depending on the outcome of the means test, an applicant might get a full or partial bursary.

Full Bursary

  • Registration
  • Tuition
  • Accommodation
  • Study material and equipment
  • Traveling
  • Food

Partial Bursary

  • Registration
  • Tuition
  • Accommodation

What You Need to Know

Charges on the tuition account will be paid to the university directly, allowance payments will be made into the bursar’s bank account. Payments will only be made for items that the bursary has been approved for.

  • All payments made by parents/legal guardians will have to be substantiated with proof of payments and should be submitted to the bursary office for consideration of reimbursement.
  • In the instance where a bursar has been awarded a partial bursary from another donor and the student has informed SANRAL thereof, SANRAL will pay only what is outstanding on tuition and allowances.
  • Awarding of the bursary is subject to positive verification of the applicant’s credentials as provided in the application.
  • The bursary will continue from the date of the award, up until all requirements prescribed by the university/tertiary institution for the course undertaken are successfully completed.

Fill in the application form and include the following:

  • A comprehensive CV
  • Certified copies of recent academic record and confirmation of registration
  • Certified copy of South African identification document
  • Motivational letters from both the applicant as well as the parent/guardian
  • Parent(s) or guardian’s certified copy of identification document
  • Parent(s) or guardian’s proof of income
  • Incomplete applications will be disqualified

Terms and Conditions

  • Late applications will not be considered.
  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • The application form must be completed in full and the information must be accurate and most recent.
  • SANRAL’s bursary will be awarded based on academic performance and financial need as determined by SANRAL’s Bursary Policy’s set requirements.
  • The application will be turned down if it does not comply with these stipulations listed.
  • SANRAL may use other applicable conditions in making the final decision in granting the bursary.
