Menzi Ngubane became the latest victim of such fake news. Starting from Monday evening all the way through Tuesday, several reports started that the veteran actor was fighting for his life at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg.
It was alleged that Ngubane was admitted to the hospital due to complications related to previous surgery. Due to the exaggeration on the matter, immediately a Pray For Menzi Ngubane hash tag was created on Twitter, and it is still trending.
Ngubane and his family took to Twitter to clear the fake news. He has also taken it upon himself to report the Twitter use who spread the news using an eNCA parody account.
The family also issued their statement regarding the fake news. “We understand their concerns and support for Menzi, but as the family, we appeal to South Africans to refrain from spreading news that has not been verified and confirmed by the family.”
