Junior News Reporter Wanted At POWER 987 (PTY) LTD. Power Fm is looking for a junior news reporter to join their station.

Job Description

• Write and produce news as assigned by Head of News
• Report on stories for the bulletins and various other station platforms.
• Research and investigate news and current affairs to strengthen content.
• Keeps up to date with news and current affairs.
• Generates ideas for stories and features based on the station narrative.
• Keep in touch news sources and build a contact base.
• Identify the angle of the story to be taken forward in the news and current affairs.
• Assist the news desk with production of the news story and the news bulletins.
• Contribute to the news diary.
• Pitch news angles and stories for consideration by the editors.
• Assist the news and current affairs shows as and when needed with projects and station initiatives.

Requirements

• An interest in news and current affairs
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Creative thinking and problem solving
• A basic understanding of the journalistic code of conduct
• A strong ethical base
• Interpretation of information and the ability to generate original ideas.
• Pitch news and current affairs content to senior colleagues and editors.
• Ability to conduct effective internet research and the use of relevant computer software for audio editing.
• When necessary to assist with online, be it audio or visual.
• To work odd hours depending on shifts and how news and current affairs content develops.
