Mandela’s Grandson Mbuso Arrested For Not Paying Child Support

According to a Sunday World report, the child’s mother has accused Nelson Mandela’s grandson Mbuso of squandering his R4-million inheritance from the struggle icon.  A warrant for his arrest was issued after he failed to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s court last week. He was arrested at his grandfather’s house in Houghton.

He has been behind bars since Thursday, after a magistrate denied him bail, and is due back in court on Thursday, 19 January. Mbuso will remain behind bars until at least Thursday after he was charged with failing to pay child maintenance.

The police’s spokesperson Kay Makhubela says Mandela appeared in court on Friday where the matter was postponed to Thursday.

“He has failed to pay the maintenance of his child and the matter was taken to court where he appeared. So far the case has been remanded to 19 January for bail application. He remains in custody.”

This is not Mandela’s first brush with the law. Mbuso Mandela was accused of rape in 2015, but the charges were dropped in 2016.
