#DeadPose – The New Strange Trend In South Africa

Social media is at it again. People are now doing the #DeadPose, which is a trend where they pose as if they’re are dead for the camera and share the pictures on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook with the caption #DeadPose. Most celebrities and youngsters are embracing it, but some are totally against it. They say it’s sort of making mockery of the ancestors

The #DeadPose online challenge started on Facebook and has gradually moved to Twitter. Social media users were encouraged to pose or pretend like dead people and upload the photos online. It is believed that the famous controversial rapper AKA, is the alleged originator of this scary pose. It went viral. Some social media users condemned and took to Twitter that this pose evil, satanic and people should stop doing it. Death is not a joke and it shouldn’t be taken lightly.

A 19 year old teenager who passed matric with four distinctions and was due to study medicine collapsed and died in Pretoria while her friends think she was doing the “Dead Pose”. Her friends cheered and took pictures. After few minutes of excitement and selfie moments, they realised that that the #DeadPoser was not moving and breathing. She was declared dead when they noticed that she chocked after swallowing her tongue.

It is official; South Africans do not deserve the internet. Users believe that this pose lacks intrinsic value and it is the dumbest and most sensitive trend ever. Some celebrities also shared that this pose needs to stop, it’s all fun and games until something terrible happens. Facebook and Twitter is clearly ungovernable, how do we start 2017 with such a horrifying trend. Some photographs were graphic in nature and angered users.
