10 Interesting Facts You Might Not Have Known About the Late Lumko Johnson. South Africa is currently mourning another talented personality Lumko Johnson. He passed away on the 14th of September, and his cause of death has not been shared as yet. As tributes and condolence message pour in, it is also equally imperative to celebrate his life.

1. 32 year old Lumko Leqela Johnson was born on 29 October in Mthatha, but raised in East London.

2. They attained a black belt in karate while in high school, where they also participated in children’s theatre and musicals professionally.

3. Lumko then went on to pursue a degree in Drama & Film at Wits University, where they also got into campus radio, subsequently hosting their own weekday morning show.

4. They are also a trained William Shakespeare facilitator, trained by ShakeXperience; a theatre based company affiliated with the Royal Shakespeare Company, which tours schools, performing Department of Education English literature set-works.

5. The multi-talented Lumko began producing for Yo-TV, before appearing as an on-air presenter for Comedy Khona, Blue Couch and a field reporter for EXT4.

6. They are also an actor of note, and was on South Africa’s first telenovela Inkaba. On the show they were cast alongside the likes of Dr John Kani, Dumisani Mbebe, Nompilo Gwala and Weza Solange.

7. Lumka also had a role in the e.tv anthology series Mzansi Love and had a guest appearance in Vuzu’s sitcom Check-Coast.

8. In April 2022, they made a public announcement on their social media platforms regarding their new journey as a transgender woman.

9. Lumko also explained that their pronouns are to remain “they or them” until they advise the public otherwise.

10. Lumko died suddenly on Wednesday 14 September 2022. The cause of death was not confirmed.
