Thuli Madonsela Raises Over Half A million Towards A #FeesMustFall Fund
Madonsela recently pledged R15‚000 towards the fund with the hope that the gesture would encourage many in corporate South Africa to follow suit. In an effort to help students that are struggling to pay for their tertiary fees, the outgoing public protector has raised R660 000 towards a #FeesMustFall fund.
On Tuesday‚ her office announced that the pledges had grown substantially‚ with Pityana alone donating R300‚000.
Another big donor is Liberty Corporate‚ which also pledged R300‚000.
Former Black Management Forum president Nolitha Fakude has donated R40‚000. The pledges were made on Friday night at the BMF’s 40th Year Anniversary dinner in Midrand and Madonsela provided the update during an address at the Young Presidents’ Organisation (YPO) Pretoria Chapter Breakfast.
“Education is a key component for a country’s progression, therefore when we collectively work towards educating our young persons, we actively and jointly contribute to a South Africa we all want to see because young people carry the dreams and hopes of our people. We ought to take cognisance of the fact that South Africa is a relatively rich country with innovative young minds that can help address today’s problems,” Madonsela said.
Madonsela has applauded the individuals who have contributed to the fund, saying that she values their concern about the problems being experienced by many students.
She is currently looking for an NGO with experience in social justice to manage the funds.
