National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund: Arts & Culture Trust Scholarship Opportunity

Funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO) and Nedbank Arts Affinity, the 2016 Scholarships Programme presented by the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) is aimed at young performers in their final year of secondary education who wish to pursue undergraduate studies in the performing arts as well as students in their first and second year dramatic arts, singing, dance and musical theatre studies.

NLDTF | ACT Scholarships for 1st and 2nd year student participants

Participants should be in their first or second year of undergraduate studies at an accredited South African tertiary institution during 2016. The following Scholarships will be awarded:

  • 1st Year Scholarships (to commence 2nd year in 2017)
    • 1 x R50,000 Dramatic Arts Scholarship
    • 1 x R 50,000 Singing Scholarships
    • 1 x R50,000 Dance Scholarship
    • 1 x R50,000 Musical Theatre Scholarship
  • 2nd Year Scholarships (to commence 3rd year in 2017)
    • 1 x R35,000 Dramatic Arts Scholarship
    • 1 x R35,000 Singing Scholarships
    • 1 x R35,000 Dance Scholarship
    • 1 x R35,000 Musical Theatre Scholarship

Participants need to be available for a final showcase during 2016 as follows:

  • Thursday 01 September
  • Thursday 08 September
  • Thursday 15 September
  • Thursday 22 September

NLDTF | ACT | DALRO | Nedbank | Scholarships for Grade 12 participants (subject to change)

Participants are required to demonstrate competence in three disciplines – acting, singing and dancing – with exceptional talent in at least one of the disciplines. The following performing arts Scholarships will be awarded and winners are at liberty to select their preferred performing arts course at any accredited South African tertiary institution:

  • 1 x R105,000
  • 1 x R54,000
  • 4 x R30,000

Additionally, candidates who demonstrate exceptional potential in one of the disciplines stand a chance to win one of the following three discipline specific Scholarships:

  • 1 x R60,000 Dramatic Arts Scholarship
  • 1 x R60,000 Singing Scholarship
  • 1 x R60,000 Dance Scholarship

Six finalists will be selected. They will be required to showcase their talents at the final round of the programme on 10 October 2016 hosted by The Market Theatre in Johannesburg.

National auditions will be hosted in 2016 as follows:

  • Durban: 22 – 25 June
  • Cape Town: 27- 30 June
  • Port Elizabeth: 1 & 2 July
  • Potchefstroom 11 July
  • Bloemfontein 12 July
  • Kimberley 13 July
  • Witbank 22 July
  • Polokwane 23 July
  • Pretoria 5 – 7 August
  • Johannesburg 8 – 10 August
