LGSETA: Bursary / Scholarship Programme 2016

The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) invites students/undergraduates who are interested in joining the local government sector to apply for our bursary opportunity.

The LGSETA will only fund a course which falls within the scarce and critical skills areas in Local Government. Please See Table 1 and 2 below:

According to Chapter 14 – Schedule 4B of the South African Constitution, the general provisions of local government are as follows:
Air pollution
Building regulations
Child care facilities
Electricity and gas reticulation
Firefighting services
Local tourism
Municipal airports
Municipal planning
Municipal health services
Municipal public transport
Municipal public works only in respect of the needs of municipalities in the discharge of their responsibilities to administer functions specifically assigned to them under this Constitutional or any other law
Pontoons, ferries, jetties, piers and harbours, excluding the regulation of international and national shipping and matters related thereto
Storm water management systems in built-up areas
Trading regulations
Water and sanitation services limited to potable water supply systems and domestic waste-water and sewage disposal systems

In making the final selection, first preference will be given to:

  • Previously Disadvantaged Individuals
  • People with Disabilities
  • South African Citizens
  • Unemployed youth

Bursaries are available to new applicants and students who are interested in furthering their studies at any of the Public Universities, Universities of Technology and TVET Colleges in South Africa. The bursary will cover the cost of registration, tuition, books and residence fees for up to the maximum amount of R 50 000 per annum.

Download Application forms. Completed application forms with the attachments should be submitted to: LGSETA, 47 Van Buuren Road, Bedfordview, 2007 or emailed to [email protected] . All submissions MUST be marked for the attention of LGSETA Bursaries.

There is a limited number of bursaries available and should you not have received any correspondence from LGSETA within 30 days from the closing date, please consider that your application has been unsuccessful.
