Liesl Laurie’s Reign As Miss South Africa To End Soon

Reigning Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie from South Africa will hand over her crown to her successor on the 19th of  March . Liesl Laurie is 24 and comes from Eldorado Park, in Johannesburg and graduated with a B.Com General Degree from the University of Johannesburg (Soweto Campus). After graduating, she decided to take the rest of the year off from university to pursue a full time career in modelling and also to embark on her journey of giving back to her community and country.

On March 29, 2015 Laurie was crowned as Miss South Africa 2015 by reigning titleholder Zipozakhe Zokufa. The Miss South Africa Pageant was held at the Sun City Super Bowl. Laurie defeated 11 other finalists during the main event. Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss attended the event, along with two other South Africans to have won Miss World, i.e. Penelope Coelen,Miss World 1958 and Anneline Kriel,Miss World 1974.

As Miss South Africa, Laurie has participated in the Miss World 2015 in Sanya, China, as one of 114 contestants. She was one of the Top 10 finalists and became the Continental Queen of Africa, for being the contestant, who was placed the highest of all the African contestants

The judging panel for the Miss South Africa Pageant 2016 has been announced with the appointment of new judge, former Miss South Africa 1994 and leading businesswoman Basetsana Kumalo.

Three of last year’s judges return for 2016: entrepreneur, poet, writer and former magazine editor, Kojo Baffoe; actress and TV personality Sophie Ndaba and Bloemfontein designer Casper Bosman. Also back is magazine editor and style icon Pnina Fenster who judged the competition in 2014 when Rolene Strauss, who went on to become Miss World, took the Miss South Africa crown.
