Nomvelo Makhanya Tired Of Receiving Threats Because Of The Character She Plays On Scandal

We all know Nomvelo Makhanya for her character “Lindiwe” on etv’s popular soapie Scandal. Lindiwe is the daughter of Mlungisi and Zinzile Ngema, and Scelo’s little sister. The Ngemas are a very traditional Zulu family that does not compromise when it comes to traditions.

The young girl is out to prove that traditions no longer have a place in the modern society. As she grows up, she is experiencing peer pressure and has started to become a young rebel.

Makhanya defines Lindiwe as a real fighter misunderstood by her parents. “She does not back down. When she puts her mind onto something she does not stop, whether it lends her in trouble or not.”

Lindiwe’s annoying character on Scandal! has made her infamous among the soapie viewers who hate her behaviour. She says old people always say to her … sengathi ngingakufaka impama (I feel like giving you a slap across the face). “I understand where they come from. Some people do not understand that Lindiwe is a character, it is not Nomvelo.”

Makhanya says Lindiwe is going through what many young girls experience. As a young person herself, she believes that parents need to understand that things have changed. She says she relates to the character because her family has something in common with the Ngemas.

The nineteen- year-old actress, is used to getting grief over her character, but she says she’s mature enough to handle it.
