Loyiso Gola Takes Comedy To A Higher Level. Comedy, might be about jokes and laughter to some, but it is a serious career that many make a living through. Some of our South Africa comedians are big brands that have made a major impact across the world. One of our greatest exports, Trevor Noah is currently one of the most recognized personalities around the world.

We also have another comedian whose fame goes beyond the shores of South Africa. Loyiso Gola is one of Africa’s most talented stand-up comedians, who is also recognized abroad. In 2017, Loyiso made his American TV debut when he did stand up comedy on 50 Central show. The show is the baby of award winning raper, 50 Cent. Just like Trevor, Loyiso continues to make the world see that comedy can take one to greater heights.

Gola is set to make it in the history books as the first African to have a solo full hour of stand up comedy on Netflix. His critically acclaimed show, Unlearning, will debut globally on Netflix come March 23, making it the first African original for 2021. In the comedy special, Gola will explore his own experience of maturity and masculinity during apartheid in South Africa. The award winning comedian will also explore unlearning all of the perceptions and behaviors we take on as children which inform our lives as adults.

In 2017, Gola debuted Unlearning in Edinburgh, then later at London’s Soho Theatre and the Melbourne Comedy Special. Now, Unlearning is coming to his hometown, Cape Town, filmed at the famed Zeits Mocca, which will debut on Netflix globally.

“Happy and humble to announce that my Netflix special Unlearning is coming out 23 March. It will be Netflix‘a first Africa’s Stand Up Original. @NetflixSA@netflixisajoke OH WHAT A FEELING,” Gola announced.

Included in his many impressive accolades, Gola is a two-time Emmy nominated anchor for his satirical news television series, Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola, which launched in 2010 and saw 12 seasons.

Gola is also the African correspondent for Charlie Pickering’s, The Weekly, on ABC in Australia. The special first debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017 and ran at the MICF, London’s Soho Theatre, Grahamstown, and Soho Playhouse in New York.
