Peal Midiadei of Zaziwa had a chat with one of the talented musicians in South Africa, Ishmael, for some authentic insight into his career and challenges he faced within the music scene. Yet the dynamic Ishmael has always been, if nothing else, versatile, able to navigate the storm.

When her released ‘Roba Letheka’…..

When ‘Roba Letheka’ came out, I was in 999. Thats the time when my music career  started booming.  It was my most selling album. Life was like a party and I was really happy with my life.

About drugs…..

I like things and I was trying to be fashionable. I ended up with the problem of addiction as I started depending on drugs. It became a big problem. That’s when I decided to go to rehab.

Are u clean now?

Rehab is like an addiction. You take it one day at the time and you try to stay away from the addictions.  I am doing my best to fight the addiction.

About his relationship with Puff Johnson….

She was almost a soul mate. She was a cool person and we agreed on a lot of things. We loved being happy and we loved life. We knew there was more to us than just us. We were very close.

Her death came as a surprise. I felt like I messed up in a way. I felt like I wasn’t paying much attention to the situation.  You shouldn’t take things for granted. What you have now, you should take care of it. You don’t know if you would have it tomorrow.

His music career…….

I have found light in my music. Things are happenning and  I am in a better place right now. I am working with Arthur Mafokate and we are killing it. I am busy shooting videos and I am planning launches.
