Most of the artists involved changed their social media profile photos to Blue which is the color for the service and encouraged their fans to do the same and make music history.

Unlike Spotify, the service will not have a free tier, meaning artists will make more money by teaming up with Tidal. Although Taylor Swift was not at the launch she’s also said to have signed with Jay Z’s Tidal. The singer made headlines last year when she removed her music on Spotify because she wasn’t making money from it.

Alicia Keys gave a statement saying the event was a graduation. “For today we announce of Tidal, the first ever artist owned, global music and entertainment platform” Keys said.
