Get To Know Your New Miss SA 2015, Liesl Laurie

The ever controversial Miss SA pageant was held last night at the Sun City Superbowl which saw Liesl Laurie from Eldorado Park being crowned the new Miss SA. This is not the first time the 23 year old B.Com graduate has entered a beauty pageant, she won the Miss Soweto 2010, Second Princess Miss Personality and Miss Mamelodi Sundowns 2014.

LIESEL

Asked why she wanted to be the new Miss SA and what she would bring to the role. Liesl said this has been a dream since she was young and has always wanted to take part in the competition. She wants to use this opportunity to reach out to young people, motivate them to rise to the challenge of building a better and brighter future as South Africa.

Her previous Miss SA who inspires her is Bokang Montjane because of how she was born and raised in a village in Limpompo but still won the prestigious title showing that it doesn’t matter where you come from but what matters is where you are going. She said she believes that like herself coming from Eldorado Park, small town girls have what it takes to become ambassadors of this country.

Her role models are her mother because she overcame drug addiction and how strong she remained. Her grandmother also inspires her because she taught her how to be confident, believe in herself and remain humble and pray.

She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing games like Rummikub and 30seconds. She loves cooking reading and her favorite series is Suits.

Her advice to young girls and young women is to focus on where you are going and never to let any situation or encounter define who you are and you are more than your struggle  and your tragedy.

Liesl would’ve loved to meet Nelson Mandela to thank him for what he did for the country and she says meeting Charlize Theron would be an honor because of how she has carried the South African flag. She also says Charlize’s Africa Outreach Project inspired her to start her own NPO called The Pearl Project which aims to create a beacon of hope through motivational and educational workshops for young girls.

She loves listening to RnB  and pop music and her favorite food is sushi and prawns.
