Gail Mabalane Reacts To “Unseen” Success & Being Number 4 On Netflix Globally

South African actress Gail Mabalane recently took to Twitter to share some exciting news with her followers. In a tweet that quickly went viral, Mabalane announced that the Netflix original series “Unseen” had made it to number 4 on the global streaming platform.

The tweet read, “Guys!!!!! 😭 We have officially made it to Number 4 … GLOBALLY!!!!! Thank you for watching. 🥹 Keep watching. 🙏🏾 S/O to @GambitFilms_ @NetflixSA #TheDreamTeam #TeamUnseen #UNSEENnetflix.”

This achievement is no small feat, especially considering the vast array of content available on Netflix.

Unseen tracks an inconspicuous Zenzi Mwale’s (Gail Mabalane) perilous descent from cleaner to killer. The suspenseful six-part series is set to premiere on 29 March 2023.

On a mission to uncover her missing husband’s whereabouts, Zenzi goes down a dangerous and destructive path littered with sinister characters who want to exploit her for their nefarious schemes.

Mabalane delivers an urgent performance as the increasingly desperate, yet determined Zenzi. She is joined by Vuyo Dabula, Ilse Klink, Rapulana Seiphemo, Dineo Langa, Brendon Daniels, Abduragman Adams, Shimmy Isaacs and Mothusi Magano as part of the series’ exceptional talent roster.

Mabalane’s tweet is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the cast and crew of “Unseen.” The show was produced by Gambit Films in collaboration with Netflix South Africa, and it’s clear that their efforts have paid off.

But the success of “Unseen” goes beyond just the numbers. The show has also been praised for its representation of black women on screen and for its honest portrayal of difficult topics like domestic work.

In a country like South Africa, where domestic works / maids are widely used and highly unnoticed it’s important to have shows like “Unseen” that address this topic head-on. The fact that it has resonated with audiences globally is a testament to the universal nature of the struggles faced by these workers everywhere.

Mabalane’s tweet has sparked excitement and pride in the hearts of South Africans and fans of the show around the world. It’s a reminder that great art has the power to bring people together and to inspire change.

As Mabalane said in her tweet, “Keep watching.” By continuing to support shows like “Unseen,” we can help to amplify important voices and to drive meaningful conversations about the issues that matter.
