More and more students are considering taking gap year before they head off to university. Not because they are lazy because there is a lot to do on one’s gap year. It also has been labelled as a thing that rich kids do because their parents can afford it. Here are 8 reasons why you should consider a gap year:

So you know what you’re good at and you have a few options of what you’d like to peruse as a career. With a gap year, you have time to conduct more research on each option and then make an informed decision on your studies.

Add to your CV

Most people would perceive a person who took a gap year as lazy, if this is not your reason then consider getting a job while you at it. The fact that you have corporate experience will look good on your CV, it will show that you are responsible and may increase your chances of getting hired.

Take a risk

Everyone has thought about stating their own business but time and fear have been obstacles. On your gap year, consider venturing into your own independent ways of making money. With all that time in your hands, you never know how that might turn out.

Continue your tertiary search

The search for a tertiary institution does not have to be rushed. Look at each institution with the career you have in mind and assess how it would be beneficial to you. Not all institution have what you need, so the process of picking one should not be rushed because it’s a decision that will affect your whole life.

Recharge your academic battery

If you didn’t lose weight in your matric year, you were not doing it right. The bad news is, Tertiary is worse. A gap year will give you a chance to rest properly. Trust me you’re going to need it in tertiary.
