Drink Spiking – 10 Things You Should Be Cautious Of

Drink spiking is a serious case facing the world today and It is often difficult to investigate these crimes, as victims can have little or no memory of the incident, or are reluctant to report the incident due to embarrassment or because they know, or have a relationship with, the suspected offender.

It’s not a fabricated lie that many people around the world fall into this trap. This usually happens at public places, nightclubs, functions/ concerts, parties etc. It is all true that perpetrators commit such an act by using foreign substances. Why do they do this? The aim is to cause the target to become disoriented, unconscious and even lower the targets inhibitions. The victim will get vulnerable to sexual assault, robbery, or even in some cases it may be an attempt of sabotage.

So, if you are planning to go out soon to a public place for a drink or two, make sure you read the following since it will give you some light on how to prevent yourself from being a victim of drink spiking.

1. Don’t accept drinks from strangers- Even if you think it’s an act of kindness, don’t do it! When you’re out, make sure you buy your own drinks.

2. Don’t leave your drink unattended while you’re at a party, concert or nightclub. Move around with it instead. Hold it with your palm over the top instead and this will make it harder for anyone to slip anything in without you noticing.

3. Avoid taking recreational drugs or using prescription medications for non-medical purposes, even if they’re offered by people you know.

4. If your drink has an unusual taste, stop drinking immediately. If this happens, make sure to stay cautious all the time.

5. Carry light things and avoid large valuable items. If you do take valuables with you, try to keep them out of sight of others.

6. Sharing is caring but not when you are at a club, bar or party. Avoid shared drinks served in bowls or other containers. You get the picture?

7. Make sure you only accept drinks that come in closed beverage container. You can never go wrong with this.

8. Avoid sharing drinks with people. Whether it’s with friends or someone you know. They could also have an agenda. So be careful.

9. If you suspect that your drink is spiked , leave it! Rather have non at all. Call someone you trust and go home.

10. Don’t overdose the drinking. Yes, you are having fun but don’t create room for possible spiking. It’s often hard to stay cautious at all times when drunk.
