Sad Note: Zoleka Mandela Passes Away. She fought such a good fight, with a positive spirit. Sadly, Zoleka Mandela has succumbed to the monster that is cancer.
In August 2022, the author and activist is a two-time cancer survivor, revealed that she was yet again diagnosed with cancer. Zoleka has Bone Metastasis, a cancer in the bones. This type of cncer sadly can’t be eradicated or cured.
“I have a pathological fracture and swelling caused by cancer. My Medical Oncologist has scheduled me for a CT scan and bone scan, to determine whether I have cancer in the remaining parts of my body. From what she’s told me, cancer in the bones cannot be eradicated nor can it be cured. I have Bone Metastasis,” Zoleka said.
Ever since her diagnosis, Zoleka has been giving updates on social media. In her latest update a week ago, she stated that she had a CT Scan administered, which have showed blood clots as well as Fibrosis in her lung. Her Medical Oncologist then recommended blood thinners and Oral Chemo. She was however incredibly grateful that she was still treatable.
In a statement released by family, Zoleka was admitted into hospital for ongoing treatment. The cancer had spread to the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain and spinal cord. She lost the battle in the evening of Monday 25th September, surrounded by family and close friends.
Zoleka, who penned a book in 2014 about every personal problem she had gone through, was treated for breast cancer in 2011, which returned in 2016. She has also a number of times opened up about the side effects of her chemotherapy treatment. We send our deepest condolences to her children, family and loved ones.
