Mthandazo Gatya Performs Live with John Legend After his TikTok Video Went Viral. Thanks to the power that is social media, a number of stars have had their biggest breaks when they least expected. Case in point is definitely Uncle Waffles, whose viral video in 2021, turned her into an international sensation who has the likes of Drake as fans.

Now another South African has just proven that social media is a powerful marketing tool. A couple of days ago, Mthandazo Gatya whose African rendition of John Legend’s news song Nervous, went viral. John has just released his eighth studio album, titled Legend. He then invited fans to “duet” his video on TikTok, and our very own Gatya participated in the #OpenVerseChallenge.

Gatya did not disappoint, and went on to do the challenge singing in Zulu. His video went viral getting reactions from the likes of John Legend himself, Black Coffee, Khanyi Mbau, Sol Phenduka and so many personalities. Although Gatya is already an established musician, his latest duet with the American superstar is surely going to take him to even greater heights.

Friday night was just the beginning of great things to come for Gatya. He got to perform live on stage with John Legend who is in the country. After Anele Mdoda announced that Legend was in the country, many people hoped at least he meet up with Gatya. Well, they did more than just meet up, but sang the cool rendition of Nervous. This goes on to show that, when Grace locates you, it doesn’t miss.
