Laboratory Assistant Opportunity at Evraz Highveld Steel and Vanadium
Introduction
Evraz Highveld Steel and Vanadium Limited is looking for a Laboratory Assistant, to assist with sampling of environmental monitoring samples and also other routine tasks within Analytical Services in the sample preparation and wet chemical laboratory.
Key Performance Areas
(This is not an exhaustive list of functions to be carried out)
• Microbiological sampling, analyses, interpretation and reporting (Mapochs, EVRAZ Highveld and Emalahleni).
• Sampling, preparation and preservation of EVRAZ Highveld and VVP Waste Disposal facility: (Borehole Water samples; Surface Water samples; Process Water samples; Sample preparation and preservation for Mapochs Environmental monitoring samples including dust fall out buckets)
• Maintenance and calibration of the sampling equipment.
• Logistic arrangements for sampling and delivering of samples at external laboratories.
• Communication with SHEQ department on status of sampling.
• Completion and record keeping of chain of custody documentation of all sampling runs
• (Mapochs, VVP WDF, EVRAZ Highveld and ad hoc samples)
• Assisting with Basic Water analysis.
• Internal verifications in Wet Chemical lab and sample preparation areas.
• Assisting with raw material sample preparation.

Knowledge and Skills
• Aptitude for numbers and calculations.
• Ability to make innovative safe decisions during sampling to ensure compliance to Water Use
• License requirements as provided by SHEQ department.
Requirements:
• Grade 12 with Maths and Science, or equivalent
• 1 to 2 years previous laboratory and or sampling work experience will be advantageous.
