Database Administrator Job
Job description
Environment:
A leading outsourced e-commerce management services organisation requires the services of a database administrator with a tertiary qualification in the field of Computer Sciences or Information Systems; MCDBA; two years hands on experience in data analysis, DBMS and business intelligence tools. Essential skills required: two years experience in a SQL Server environment, MS SQL Server 2000 skills (creating databases, tables, views, stored procedures, optimization, linked servers data transformation services DTS and transactional replication).
Dties:
Main duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Designs physical data structures to support application requirements.
- Provides performance reviews and tuning recommendations for applications.
- Consults with application developers regarding optimal use of SQL Server and related technology.
- Assures compliance with standards through participation in design and code reviews.
- Works with IS manager to exploit data sharing and minimize data redundancy.
- Trains personnel in the use of SQL Server.
- Administers client/server RDBMS products.
- Tests and implements new releases of SQL Server-related software.
- Provides debugging assistance to development staff with DBMS.
- Participates in providing 7-day/24 hour on-call support.
- Implement data cleaning routines using T/SQL, Stored Procedures and DTS.
Requirements: Skills required:
- Two years experience in a SQL Server environment.
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Skills – creating databases, tables, views, stored procedures, optimization, linked servers data transformation services (DTS), Transactional Replication.
- Be able to work well as part of a team and to form liaisons with other groups in order to achieve a desired objective.
- Be a self-starter and have an ability to work with little direct supervision on projects.
- Dedication to producing quality work and completing tasks within specified time frames.
- Analytic thinking.
Other requirements:
- MCDBA (Microsoft Certified Database Administrator).
- A tertiary qualification (Degree or Diploma) in the field of Computer Sciences or Information Systems.
- two years hands on experience in Data Analysis, DBMS and Business Intelligence tools.
