” People Mistake Me For Mazwi All The Time” Says Generations’ Actor Moopi Mothibeli

Born and raised in South Africa, Moopi graduated from the Tshwane University of Technology in 2008. Four years later, he earned an MFA in Acting at The Ohio State University. Coming from a family of footballers, Mothibeli says football was all he thought of while growing up.

Generations: The Legacy actor Moopi Mothibeli initially auditioned to play his half-brother and love-triangle arch-enemy Mazwi Moroka in the SABC1 soapie. With Generations being his first big television acting platform, Moopi opened up about his acting gig on the soapie.

“I got a call from my agent about auditioning in the then, upcoming Generations. Funny enough, I was initially sent for the character of Mazwi and was coupled with actress Asanda Foji who was going for Simphiwe during the auditions late last year,” he said.

Moopi also spoke about life on and off the big screen saying he often gets mistaken for Mazwi who plays his brother on the soapie.

“It would only make sense that folks can only use Smanga to recognise me with but now and again I do get mistaken for Mazwi, and vice versa. It’s actually become a bit of an on set joke too as the crew occasionally falls victim to this mistaken identity.”
