Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala Explains Why She’ll Never Wear Weaves Again

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala explained why she stopped wearing weaves. The TV personality and businesswoman revealed that she took the weave off because she no longer wants to apologise for who she is. She further claimed that she embraces and takes pride in being a black woman.

“I took the weave off because I no longer wanted to apologise for who I am.”

“I am black. I am proud of it. I have no shame in the colour of my skin. I have no shame in my crown. I am a beautiful, brown-skinned girl.”

In a previous post, Bokang added her a voice to the calls of outrage at Pretoria Girls High, defending black students’ rights to wear their hair naturally in the classroom.

“Own your crown and wear it with pride. They can’t handle the power that comes with you loving who and what you are, they will try and kill your confidence, make you believe it’s ok to be black but don’t be too black, that your crown is too black for society, workplace and even the school environment, don’t let them make you feel inferior,” she wrote, before urging young black girls to take pride in their “blackness”.
