Fully Integrated Sustainable Development Global warming, the population explosion and the excessive consumption of all resources by the present generation at the expense of future generations compels anyone with a conscience to actively contribute to address these problems. There are plans for a fully integrated sustainable development in South Africa which will become a model for sustainable development on the rest of the planet.

From a environmental perspective, the following possible solutions will contribute to water-, energy- and food security for current generations but also, as required by the principle of inter-generational equity, future generations

1. The optimal utilization, recycling and reuse of water.

2. The generation of renewable energy (solar, wind and bio-digesting) for the use of the development (in the meantime) and the future sale to the network once an IPP agreement has been established with the single buyers office.

3. Intensive urban agriculture on a commercial scale by including technologies like”aquaponics” (a combination of fish farming (the cleanest and healthiest protein source for human consumption) and “hydroponics” (the most sustainable utilisation of water in growing plants).

4. Waste to energy conversion and an aim of zero waste.

5. The production of bio-fertilizer.

6. The planning and allowance for immature industries (like bio-diesel from algae) on a plug and play basis when it is ready for implementation.

7. Carbon capture and sequestration through the integration of these technologies.

8. The sustainable consumption of maximum horizontal ground surface for the above applications by using about 90% of the land surface for the implementation of the technologies listed above and only the balance for residential and or educational purposes.

From a social perspective there will be plans for a residential component, a retirement complex with frail-care to be migrated into a hospital, schools and a college.

Recreational facilities will be shared in order to realise the most productive use of the facilities. In addition, job creation will flow from the above sustainable technologies and with it concomitant social upliftment.
