Nomzamo Mbatha Relives Sad Childhood Memories While Visiting Flood Affected Places in KZN

Nomzamo Mbatha Relives Sad Childhood Memories While Visiting Flood Affected Places in KZN. A couple of weeks back heavy rains in Kwazulu Natal left the province and the entire nation shattered. The floods caused so much damage to property and infrastructure roads and bridges to collapse, and sadly more than 400 people lost their lives, while many are still missing.

So many people have reached out to assist in anyway they can. Among those who came through is businessman Patrice Motsepe who pledged R30m to be used to urgently help flood victims. Movie star Charlize Theron launched a fundraiser in support of flood relief efforts in the province. Other celebs like Sonia Mbele, Ayanda Ncwane, Tbo Touch, Zakes Bantwini, Nomcebo Zikode and DJ Tira have also pledged help in different forms.

Another one of our most philanthropic celebrities, Nomzamo Mbatha recently visited the affected areas. The talented actress shared pictures on her Instagram, to show just how much damage the floods have caused. Nomzamo also had the opportunity to have a chat with locals, who opened up about their loss and the kind of assistance they need.

Seeing all of this reminded Nomzamo of how life used to be while growing up at her grandmother’s house. She shared how she used to cope when water entered their house during the rainy seasons. Nomzamo also empathized with KZN flood victims, because their situation is much worse than hers.

When I was growing up, during heavy rains my home used to flood. Badly. My grandmother and I would sit and wait for the storm to pass while water would be up to our knees. When the rain would finally stop, I would begin with pushing the water out with buckets, then with a broom, then with towels and blankets, then finally with a mop. I had a system. There is no system when the rain is covering the roof of a home and sandpits slide and bury the entire inside. I keep thinking of the helplessness of people realizing what was happening and having no chance to even run. Families wiped out,” Nomzamo said.
