Reading Books Is Important

What book are you currently reading? How many books have you read so far? Or do you even read at all? Well for those of you who do not read you need to know yourself what reading does for you.

Books have been around for centuries but for much of that time they were not available to the common person. Only the upper classes were able to read. Books were very expensive and had to be copied by hand. It was not until the invention of the printing press that books and especially the Bible became cheaper and more widely available.

In this day and age reading instruction is available to virtually everyone. We have only to take advantage of it. The importance of books and reading cannot be underestimated.

Reading is the basic foundation on which academic skills of an individual are built. This is why it should be given top priority. Many believe that reading is an apt measure of a person’s success in academics. Most of the subjects taught to us are based on a simple concept – read, synthesize, analyze, and process information. Although a priceless activity, its importance has been deteriorating rapidly. One of the prominent causes for this is the technology boom, wherein you can get whatever information you need just with a few clicks!

Reading, however, doesn’t mean making it through your school textbooks to clear the approaching tests.  It is not only for educational reasons, sometimes you read for just relaxation. You can read almost anything including encyclopaedias, novels, dailies, magazines…the list is pretty long, but that hardly matters, as long as you like doing it.

Whether you like fiction or non-fiction is not important, but whether you like reading or not is! Sadly, however, people nowadays seem to have totally lost interest in this activity. People are too busy with computer games, television or glued on to their computer screen, chatting on social networks. Reading does have its loyal fan following, but the fan base is rapidly decreasing. People need and have to read.

Fun Fact
Some people would rather watch a movie than read a book but you should know this, a paperback book or discounted book usually costs about the same as a movie ticket. A book will entertain a reader for much longer than a movie will entertain its audience.
