Applications to the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship or Scholarship opportunity are now open

Allan Gray Orbis Foundation (The Foundation) is offering candidates that show potential in entrepreneurial talent an opportunity to develop as responsible entrepreneurs by applying for the Allan Gray Fellowship opportunity. “The Foundation aims are to assist and develop a new generation of responsible high impact entrepreneurs whom are ethical leaders; bringing about job creation in Southern Africa to positively impact our collective future,” says Anthony Farr (CEO of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation).

The Fellowship applications are open to Grade 12 learners, or students in their first year of studies. The Foundation supports degrees in the fields of Commerce, Engineering and Science (excluding medicine), Law or Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics). Only candidates furthering their education at the following universities can apply: Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, TSIBA Western Cape, Stellenbosch, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan, Rhodes or Free State. The Fellowship opportunity provides Candidate Fellows access to a community of likeminded individuals, exposure to thought leaders, mentorship, entrepreneurial mindset development and full university funding. Graduated Candidate Fellows whom have excelled can apply for post-graduate funding. Exclusive E2 venture capital support is available to approved business ventures once Fellows have graduated.

Grade 12 applicants who pass the initial screening phase of selection will write the National Benchmark Test. All applicants who meet the requirements in the application phase will be invited for an interview and if successful thereafter invited to attend a Selection Camp. Candidate Fellows are announced after the Selection Camps.

Suzie Nkambule, a graduated Fellow shared the following statement about her Fellowship experience: “I wanted to be an engineer, entrepreneur, business analyst and a change agent. I have the privilege to be all this in my daily life; my roles at work, within the community of Candidate Allan Gray Fellows, as a mentor and mentee, I have created a unique setting where I get to wear all those hats every day. It wasn’t easy to create – nor is it easy to sustain – but I am proud of my accomplishments and have never been happier.”

Fellowship applications for Grade 12 learners and first year students studying at the above-mentioned institutions open on Monday 27 January 2014.

Applications close 30 April 2014 for Grade 12 learners and 29 August 2014 for first year university students.

In addition to the Fellowship opportunity, the Foundation also offers the Allan Gray Scholarship for prospective high school learners, which open later this year. Applications open on the 21 July 2014 and close on 12 September 2014. Applicants in Grade 6 can apply for school placement in 2016.
