The Late Busi Lurayi Stars In A New Netflix Drama Series. She may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. This is because, whether old and new, Busi Lurayi’s impressive work continues to speak for her.

The award winning actress is best known for her starring role as Phumzile on the SABC1 sitcom City Ses’la and its spin-off series Ses’Top La which premiered in 2012. She has also been on shows like, Sokhulu & Partners, Generations, Wild At Heart and medical drama series ER just to mention a few.

Because of her outstanding work, Busi has bagged some awards in the industry. She won The Golden Horn Award for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Comedy in 2006 and Golden Horn Award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy in 2011. Just after her passing, Busi got nominated for a SAFTA under the Best Actress in a TV Comedy category. This was for her role as Tumi Sello, who is the black sheep of the family on Netflix comedy series, On How to Ruin Christmas.

Busi’s name continues to make waves in the industry. She is set to star in an upcoming Netflix drama series, Magenta Coal. It is not yet clear what her role, is, but whatever it is, Busi definitely killed it. The drama series centres around a family of mining magnates who run the biggest coal mine in South Africa. However, things get steamy when Matilda the wife of the mining magnate gets consumed with a desire for fortune and family succession.

Magenta Coal, also boasts Connie Chiume, Vusi Kunene, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Hamilton Dlamini, Ntando Duma, Nambitha Mpumlwana, Senzo Radebe, Jack Devnarain, Cedric Fourie, Celeste Khumalo and Omuhle Gela.

It will commence streaming on October 27, 2023, following the recent addition by Netflix
