Absa Bank –Clerk Futures Clearing
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To perform key functions within the Futures Clearing Operations Team, the most important of these being daily balancing to the JSE also reconciliation and support between the JSE and other non-clearing members (brokers). Also to perform the first line contact point for the clients of Futures Clearing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Daily balancing with the JSE on all three markets, Commodity, Financial and Yield-X
- Opening, closing and amending client accounts on the Global Clearing
- Management System and the FBSS cash management system
- Setup and amend commission structures and rating codes on client accounts
- Ensuring all client queries assigned to them are closed out
- Interacting with the JSE and the system vendor where necessary
- Reconciling accounts where necessary
- Performing daily and monthly settlement and operations activities / procedures
- Liaising with the relevant internal and external parties to resolve
- Gain proficiency on the clearing systems
- Customer Service
- Reporting
- Process re-engineering critical in improving the operations of the desk.
- Testing of upgrades, bug fixes and quarterly system updates.

Essential/Basic Qualifications
- Minimum Matriculation Certificate
- Tertiary Education (Business Degree)
- Banking Environment (preferable in Operations)
- Settlements and Clearing experience
- General business acumen
- Understanding of the components of the financial system
- Basic accounting knowledge
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and spoken)
- Problem solving ability
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and the Internet
- No criminal record
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to South African Citizens and Permanent residents of South Africa in possession of proof of permanent resident status
