Khaya Wins Idols Season 8
On Tuesday South Africa clued up to their television screens for the finale of Idol’s season 8. The 25 year old singer from Durban Khaya Mthethwa was voted as this year’s winner.
Khaya was announced the winner at a gala held at the Mosaïek Teatro in Fairland, Johannesburg. The special 90-minute long show featured performances by season’s 8 top 8, previous Idol Dave van Vuuren and other musicians including Jack Parow, FreshlyGround, Toya Delazy and Zakes Bantwini.
Khaya walks away with R500 000 cash along with a brand new Ford Fiesta, R30 000 Truworths vouchers as well as product from Samsung worth R50 000, R50 000 voucher for musical equipment from Yamaha and a precision-crafted Shure.
Khaya will start working on his album with Universal Music within the next couple of weeks and his first single, “Move”, which he debuted in the Top 2 Spectacular last week, is already getting airplay and is available for download by texting “Khaya” to 39006 (R15 per full track download).
